Celebrate Spring in Atlanta’s DeKalb

When visitors step outside in Atlanta’s DeKalb, they won’t want to go back indoors. The weather is usually quite ideal, so there is always something to do outside. Here are our favorite Spring events and festivals that you can’t miss!

Small Town, Big Blooms

slider-1

Who doesn’t love that time of year when the weather warms up, all of the flowers are blooming, and outdoor festivals begin? Well, one of the best places to kick off this time of year is in DeKalb’s very own Brookhaven, home of the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s the largest city in DeKalb with plenty of hotels, restaurants, walking trails, lakes, parks and recreation facilities to enjoy. Many of the homes in Brookhaven are known for their beautiful architecture from the pre-war period creating a very romantic vibe.

And then Cherry Blossom Festival, which begins each spring, is a picturesque celebration as the sweet smell of these infamous flowers fills the air. The event, which takes place all weekend long, also hosts musical performances, an art market, a pet parade, 5k run and much more. For anyone looking to have that small-town experience here in Georgia, this is the place to do it.

The prehistoric creature collection features more than 20 life-size dinosaurs with special effects allowing them to move and roar just like their ancient ancestors. Families will find their favorites among them including the giant Tyrannosaurus Rex, often referred to as the king of the dinosaurs. Two gentle, plant-eating brachiosaurus will tower above guests over 20 feet tall and 33 feet long. The collection also includes the three-horned triceratops, a ferocious allosaurus, a winged pteranodon and many more scientifically accurate species.
