If you are visiting Atlanta’s DeKalb County, you may be thinking of taking in a museum, or finding a gem of a restaurant tucked away in a strip mall in downtown Decatur. Perhaps you’re planning a visit to Stone Mountain Park, the largest exposed mass of granite in the world – along with all that goes with it. But one much-overlooked destination isn’t just one destination at all – DeKalb County is chock-full of beautiful parks and we’re excited to introduce them to you!
The public parks in DeKalb County are managed by the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs. They host 130 parks, and the amenities include approximately 6,000 acres of open land, over one hundred playgrounds and tennis courts, several golf courses and ball fields, and dozens of pavilions and recreational facilities. There is truly entertainment available for the entire family. Nature provides such a wonderful canvas of opportunity if we only take the time to enjoy it.
The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs have a vision, and they sum it up as “creating and connecting communities through people, parks and programs.” If you are visiting DeKalb County, why not take a day to relax and enjoy the beauty of east Atlanta’s natural surroundings by visiting one of our numerous parks. The kids will love the playground or just running around on the grass, and mom and dad would love a round of golf or a game of tennis. Sometimes, all you need is to sit for a while under the pavilion, breathe the fresh air, listen to the birds and enjoy the greenery.
When you travel to DeKalb County, be sure to check out our beautiful parks as you relax, unwind and take in the beauty of nature.
