Atlanta’s DeKalb County has serious culinary cred. If you are looking for international cuisine to please any palate, you can find it in DeKalb County. Foodies have taken notice and the word is out that DeKalb County serves up some of the finest, original cuisine in Georgia. Southern Living Magazine recently named the City of Decatur as one of the top ten “Tastiest Towns in the South.” ‘Nuff said.
Our DeKalb CVB Sales Team has started meeting for lunch at different DeKalb County restaurants every week. As Marketing and Communications Manager, I decided to begin blogging about these unique restaurants to introduce visitors to dining options when visiting our county. Our objective is to highlight some of the unique gems that are found throughout the entire county. We will be compiling our listings for a special dining section on our website in the future. If you would like to suggest a restaurant to be considered for inclusion, please email barrys@dcvb.org.
Farm Burger wants you to think about your burger – What it is and where it’s from…
“Our cows are raised on the sweet grasses of the southeast, and never fed antibiotics, hormones or grain. Our menu is seasonal and sourced from local farms,” boasts the Farm Burger Menu…
So fresh burgers from local farms were on our mind when we recently visited Farm Burger in the City of Decatur, located minutes from the Downtown Square. Inside is a very casual, hip atmosphere with plenty of self-seating with a laid-back flair.
High ceilings and group-size hardwood tables give a rustic feel to the architecture. There are also several tables outside on a front patio for outdoor dining. Local hipsters and families mix with business people as they wait in line for a lunch break.
Guests order from a giant blackboard and food is delivered to your table. Menu highlights include a simple, “build it yourself” choice of burgers, chicken or veggie burgers. However, their beef burgers and fries are the star attraction here. There are a number of intriguing items you can top off your sandwich with such as “aged smoked gouda,” “oxtail marmalade” and “decimal place goat cheese” in addition to the free extras.
Sides include items like sweet potato fries, local fried okra and beer-battered onion rings. A number of independent beers such as “Heinnieweisse Farmhouse Ale” or “Wells Banana Bread Beer” offer alternatives to the usual domestic standards.
The burgers were fresh and delicious. The fries were hot and tasty. If you are looking for an alternative to the usual hamburger gig with ingredients that you can feel good about, then Farm Burger is an excellent choice. Another reason the City of Decatur is known through the foodie world as a “must visit” for unique dining.
Farm Burger is located at 410B West Ponce de Leon, Decatur, Georgia 30030. For more information, visit FarmBurger.net or call 404-378-5077. They also have a location in the Buckhead area.
